"AT THE ROCKET”
VFW Post 4534
10.18.2021
Greetings Rocket Post,
As
usual, I will start this weekly ATR off with a huge Thank You to all our
volunteers. Not only do you come through for the dinners but the Post Clean up
Saturday morning would not have happened without those of you that showed up
and worked your tails off for hours. We got a lot accomplished and for that I
am grateful. I will plan another clean up in 3 months and the next one will
focus on the exterior of the building and yes this means painting.
On Saturday
23 October we will be showing our appreciation for all our First responders
here in Brevard County. We will have a DJ outside and we will have the grill on
and the kitchen open from 1 to 5 PM. Please bring sides to share. There should
be a sign-up sheet in the canteen or contact Diana Collier or Carl Davis if you
would like to bring a side dish.
Don’t
forget to get signed up for the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner on Wednesday the 27thof October. I know I don’t speak for everyone but I can tell you this is one of
my favorites and it is going to be awesome. Sign-up sheet is in the canteen.
If
you have not seen the write up our Jr. Vice, Jim Lawson, did 2 weeks ago please
take a look at it. This is on our Facebook page as well as at the post in the
canteen and the hall. This is our post effort to provide Christmas as we do
each year but this time it really hits close to home and is very touching to
say the least. "Operation Rose’s Christmas”, if you have any questions please
feel free to contact Comrade Lawson or any officer on the board. Our goal is to
ensure every child at the Children’s hospital in Orlando has Christmas and they
will receive their Christmas from Santa who will be flown in. I feel this will
be bigger than any of our past Christmas missions. On 13 November we will be
having a Spaghetti dinner as well as raffles, 50/50, silent auctions, you name
it. I can tell you the grand prize is going to be a 70 inch colored television.
Please check out the write up and again, if you have any questions please ask.
Reminder,
there is a box in the canteen for your donations for the humane society. This
can be dog food, cat food, dry food, canned food, whatever your heart desires.
Keep in mind they also have other animals there from birds, rabbits, Guinea
Pigs, Hamster’s. You can also look at their wish list on line at https://brevardhumanesociety.org/wish-lists/ If you have any questions please contact the
Auxiliary President Diana Collier
As
you all know last year Trick or Treat was cancelled due to the pandemic. Well,
this year it looks to be a go and the kids will be excited to get out there and
collect as much candy as they can. There are a couple things to keep in mind
while these children are going door to door. Please pay attention if you are
driving and adhere to the posted speed limit or go even slower in the housing
areas. If you are out there with your kids or Grandkids try to maintain a safe
distance form others that you do not know, Avoid large gatherings at front
doors, wait until it’s not so congested. Take only wrapped candy or treats,
avoid homemade goodies. Once you’re done trick or treating, be sure to wash your
hands before you eat the candy. For those staying at home and giving out the
candy, designate one person to give out the candy, wear your mask prior to
opening the door. If you will be sitting outside giving out the candy try to
set yourself up behind a table in an effort to create distance between yourself
and the trick or treater. Put out some hand sanitizer for those going door to
door and of course, wash your hands frequently.
Have a wonderful week.
