"AT THE ROCKET”
VFW Post 4534
10.11.2021
Greetings Rocket Post,
We had another great week at the Rocket
Post. I need you all to keep your eyes on the upcoming calendar. We have so
much going on between now and Christmas that I will not be able to fit it on
the weekly update. Please watch the calendar and look for updates to events
happening in the next three months.
If you have not seen the write up our Jr.
Vice, Jim Lawson, did last week please take a look at it. This is on our
Facebook page as well as at the post in the canteen and the hall. This is our
post effort to provide Christmas as we do each year but this time it really
hits close to home and is very touching to say the least. "Operation Rose’s Christmas”,
if you have any questions please feel free to contact Comrade Lawson or any
officer on the board. Our goal is to ensure every child at the Children’s hospital
in Orlando has Christmas and they will receive their Christmas from Santa who
will be flown in. I feel this will be bigger than any of our past Christmas
missions. On 13 November we will be having a Spaghetti dinner as well as raffles,
50/50, silent auctions, you name it. I can tell you the grand prize is going to
be a 70 inch colored television. Please check out the write up and again, if
you have any questions please ask.
Sunday breakfast; we have been trying to
do a breakfast at the post once a month for a while. Evelyn has been coming in
and preparing breakfast made to order and her efforts seem to be going
unnoticed. Yesterday we tried to have the buffet breakfast but again the
attendance was low and it was a lot of work for those in the kitchen, behind
the bar and doing dishes. After some conversation we decided that maybe it is
because we are only doing this once a month. So, in January we would like to
have breakfast once a week. This does mean we will need volunteers. Between now
and then please get a hold of Carl Davis if you would like to help with a
Sunday breakfast. I am hoping that if this is a regular weekly thing you all
might enjoy it much more.
Reminder,
there is a box in the canteen for your donations for the humane society. This
can be dog food, cat food, dry food, canned food, whatever your heart desires.
Keep in mind they also have other animals there from birds, rabbits, Guinea
Pigs, Hamster’s. You can also look at their wish list on line at https://brevardhumanesociety.org/wish-lists/ If you have any questions please contact the
Auxiliary President Diana Collier
Ah
yes it is getting closer and closer, that’s right, POST CLEAN-UP Saturday the
16th. This is going to be a great time and a lot of work at the same
time. There will be pressure washing, grill detailing, kitchen deep cleaning, fridge
detailing, bar and canteen sanitizing, hall stripping and waxing. Hope to see
you all Saturday morning at 8:00 AM. Again, if you have any tools or supplies
you think might benefit the cleaning efforts please bring them. Also please
bring work-gloves if you have them.
On Saturday
23 October we will be showing our appreciation for all our First responders
here in Brevard County. We will have a DJ outside and we will have the grill on
and the kitchen open from 1 to 5 PM. Please bring sides to share. There should
be a sign-up sheet in the canteen or contact Diana Collier or Carl Davis if you
would like to bring a side dish.
On
Wednesday 27 October 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM we have the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner.
Be sure to sign up in the canteen.
