"AT THE ROCKET”

VFW Post 4534

9.27.2021

Greetings Rocket Post,

Finally some decent weather, not too blistering hot, not too overly humid and not raining! I was quite happy this morning. Hope everyone is doing great this week. I am starting to get a little into the holiday mood writing about upcoming events like Trick or treat, Thanks giving, Christmas and New Year’s. Yep. Every one of these events involves friends, family and lots of different food! Y’all know I like that.

I cannot go a week without highlighting our volunteers. Our canteen associates, our kitchen volunteers, everyone who pitches in when something needs to be done. I am beyond grateful for all you do, day in and day out. Our post runs off volunteers and our post is currently running like a fine tuned motor. You are all awesome.

I hope you all got signed up for the Liver and Onions dinner. It is this Wednesday 29 September. Beef Liver and Onions, mashed potatoes with gravy, salad and dessert. If I know Carl, he made some extra so if you did not get signed up and you are interested you can still come to the post and check.

Don’t forget about "Show Me The Money” this coming Saturday at 1:00 PM in the canteen. This is now on the first and third Saturday of each month.

On 23 October we will be showing our appreciation for all our First responders here in Brevard County. We will have a DJ outside and we will have the grill on and the kitchen open from 1 to 5 PM. Please bring sides to share. There should be a sign-up sheet in the canteen or contact Diana Collier or Carl Davis if you would like to bring a side dish.

On 29 October we are having our Commanders Choice Dinner. This will be something very unique and I for one can’t wait to try it. Our kitchen volunteers are making 1/2 Cornish Hen with dressing, mashed potatoes w/gravy, veg, salad, roll and dessert. Not only does this sound like a lot of work, it sounds like a lot of food and for only 12 bucks you cannot go wrong.

Following the commanders Choice Dinner we are helping out the Veterans Memorial with a karaoke contest in the hall. I know we have a few singers in our membership and I hope to see you up there going for that first prize that night. This should be a lot of fun and I expect more than average participation this night.

Reminder; the Patriots Pen, the Voice of Democracy and the Teacher of the Year. Only 5 weeks left so help spread the word.

The Patriot Pen Theme is "How Can I be a Good American?  This program is for 6th thought 8th grade.  It requires the student to write a paper between 300 and 400 words.

The VOD Theme is "America: Where do we go from here?”  This program is for 9th through 12th grade.  It requires the student to record their speech on a CD or flash drive.  The speech must be no shorter than 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes (plus or minus 5 seconds)

The Teacher of the Year application must describe in 350 words or less why the teacher promotes patriotism and their dedication to education and complete the nomination form.

All forms must be received at the Post NLT 31 Oct 2021.
