"AT THE ROCKET”

Greetings Rocket Post,
Another
week in the books but this time it was not all fun. As you all know, Saturday
the 11th of September, we remembered what happened here on our own
soil 20 years ago. On that tragic day in 2001 we lost 2,977 innocent people and
another 25,000 were injured. Of those, 246
were on the four planes, 2,606 were in the World Trade Centre and the
surrounding area, and 125 were at the Pentagon. To this day a lot of us
still ask why! All we can do in their honor is Never Forget and we will not. I
am sure you saw the various ceremonies all over the country that were televised
all day Saturday. I bet everyone remembers exactly what they were doing on 11
September 2001 at 8:46 in the morning, I know I do. May we all never forget!
I
want to send a huge thank you to our volunteers for the past Thursday, Friday
and Sunday. You all make the post run like a well-oiled machine. For those that
missed Evelyn’s breakfast Sunday morning I will tell you that you missed out
big time. I ate like champ and I will not miss the next one either.
I
heard someone talking Saturday about how they wished we still had the dinners, "TO
GO”, I thought, we still do. For those of you that did not know this, we offer
our Thursday dinner, Friday dinner and even our Sunday lunch to go if you
desire. We never stopped offering that.
We
have 5 tickets for the muscle car museum down in Melbourne. This Saturday the
18th at 6:30 PM they will be honoring Veterans and raising money for
the Honor Flight. We at the Rocket Post have purchased 5 ticket sand will be
raffling them off this Friday during dinner. If you are interested please come
by the post this week and get your ticket for a chance to win one or more of
these entry tickets. One raffle ticket is $10.00 and three raffle tickets is
$20.00. Sorry for the short notice but we just received the tickets Saturday
afternoon. You do not have to be present to win just fill out the back of your
ticket and if you are one of the lucky 5 we will call you immediately after the
drawing at 7:00 PM.
NFL
vs. Bingo! This is a topic that will probably be discussed for years to come
and that’s ok. Eventually I hope everyone understands and appreciates that
making every single person happy is virtually impossible. Just yesterday I was
asked to turn the volume down on the television in the canteen so they could
hear the bingo caller. As I have previously stated, any changes to the
happenings in the canteen is up to the canteen associate who is volunteering.
That being said all the canteen associates know that if there is one person
watching a football game in the canteen they have the priority. There will be
times, like yesterday when the folks watching the games did not need the volume
and said they did not mind if the volume was turned down. In a situation like
that it will be perfectly fine to turn the volume down on the game and turn on
the speakers for the Bingo game. Please remember if there are those watching
the games in the canteen they do have the priority in the canteen just like the
Bingo game has priority in the hall.
Coming
up; Wednesday 29 September the kitchen is offering a special dinner. Beef Liver
and Onions, mashed potatoes with gravy, salad and dessert. Please sign up in
the canteen so Carl knows how much to prepare. Please sign up by 18 September.
