Greetings Rocket Post,
14 June 1777 commemorates
the adoption of the Official American Flag by resolution of the Second
Continental Congress. On 30 May 1916 President Wilson established a national
Flag Day on 14 June and in 1949 President Truman signed legislation proclaiming
Flag Day as a National holiday although it was never considered a federal
holiday.
Monday 14 June 2021 is Flag Day and
the US Army birthday. Come celebrate 246 years of the Army serving and
defending our country this evening at 6:00 PM (1800Hrs.) at the Rocket Post. We
will hear a short speech form our Commander Mark Kelley and we will cut the
Army Birthday Cake.
General Membership keep in mind we have
our monthly meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 PM so if you want your voice to be
heard this is the time to do it.
On Monday 28 June we will be celebrating
Bill Fanning’s Life. I know you all remember Bill; he was an awesome kitchen
manager as well as one heck of a cook. On top of all that he was a Marine, a
husband, brother, father and he was an all-around great person. Please mark
your calendar and come celebrate with Bills Widow, Ro, and their family. Let’s
have a fantastic celebration for a great man and a big part of the VFW Rocket
Post. More details to come.
Quick side note; If you have items you
would like to donate please take them to Down the Road Thrift store in Cocoa by
the water tower. Jerry Vaughn will take care of your donations and ensure they
get to a new home. Please do not drop off your donations at the Rocket Post.
