"AT THE ROCKET”
VFW Post 4534
Greetings Rocket Post,
Ten days left to get your shopping done for Christmas. I hope everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit, I know I am. The best part for me is, knowing there are kids out there that will have a great Christmas because of all of you that have donated and played the 50/50 for the past few months. Even with this Covid-19 virus, we have managed to raise over $5,700.00 and we will be helping 14 families. This would not have been possible without all of you that made it happen.
For those of you that could not make it to the Post this past Saturday I have to tell you that you really missed a great ceremony. The Patriots Pen which is 6th through 8thgraders was beyond impressive. The top three read their essays and each and every one of them had great views on Patriotism. The Voice Of Democracy is both an essay and an audio speech and the young man that won it for our post was also last year’s winner. This young man is certainly going places. We also had the Teacher of the Year award. I would like to give a huge thank you to Loni Thompson for all her dedication in making this happen. I know she had assistance from her husband Dennis but he will not take any credit. Also for those that judged the essays, Commander Mark Kelley, Comrade Rick McFarland and Loni. Awesome job everyone.
General Members, this Wednesday we have our monthly meeting. If you want your voice to be heard I hope to see you there. Meeting starts at 7:00 PM.
Last week our Kitchen volunteers tried to have a special on Taco night which was Chicken Enchilada’s. I know I liked them and it looks like quite a few of you did too. So, this week I have asked if they could do the Beef Enchiladas and they have said yes. There might not be a special every week but we still have the awesome Rocket Tacos regardless. Hope to see you after 5:00 PM this Thursday.
Christmas day! Do not think that you have nowhere to go on this day. The Rocket Post will be open and you can bet there will be food. Looks like three turkeys and a ham or two are being made. See Carrie if you plan on attending and enjoying the day with us. I will ask permission to have open jukebox and I will ask permission to have the pool table open on this great day as well.
For this year’s New Year’s Eve get together we are going to try something a little different. Some members have said midnight is just too late to be out and about. I have to agree. So, we are going to try to ring in the New Year the same time Brazil does. So, we will be dropping the ball in the Rocket Post at 10:00 PM and welcome 2021 a couple hours before everyone else. Hopefully more of our members can be a part of the New year celebration with us.
Until further notice Saturday the Rocket post will open at 3:00 PM on Saturdays. We will revisit this topic in January 2021.
Have a wonderful week.
