"AT THE ROCKET”
VFW Post 4534

Greetings Rocket Post,
Happy Monday Everyone, I have had a few
phone calls over the weekend asking why we shut the post down for two weeks. As
I wrote in the short letter, we have had a few positive covid-19 tests and we
want to ensure everyone’s safety and hope that each and every one of you get
tested to ensure you are ok. With that being said, some phone calls were to let
me know they were negative and others were to let me know they were also
positive.
There were a few comments on the Facebook
page saying that there are other veteran organizations open so they will just
go there. I want to caution everyone that the members of our post also go to
these other veteran organizations. The point of shutting down the post for two
weeks is to give everyone a chance to get better and in 2 weeks when we do
re-open everyone should be free of the virus. That’s the goal anyway. I would
never ask anyone to stay home and isolate unless you are positive but if you
are in contact with anyone that has tested positive I would hope you find the
time to get tested and ensure before you go anywhere that you are not positive.
The only way to stop this and ensure our members safety is through honesty and
testing.
None of us at the post will share your
name with anyone but if you are around others and you know you are positive or
you have been in contact with someone who is positive please keep your distance
and wear your mask.
Over this past weekend I knew I had been
in contact with 9 people that tested positive in the past week. I made it a
point to tell friends that my wife and I will be keeping our distance for their
safety until we got our results yesterday, which were both negative. The test
is easy and I believe it is free for anyone. It is simple enough to walk into
MEDFAST and get the test done for your own peace of mind. I think I will
continue to get one a week because I do work every day and I am around people I
do not know most days. Also keep in mind it is not just people but touching anything
that others touch. Wash your hands! Use that sanitizer provided all over the
place. Be mindful what you touch.
Now on to happy news! We will re-open on
Sunday 18 October. We will have burgers and dogs. We will have Bingo. Between
now and then, as always, our post will be sanitized from the hall to the
canteen to the kitchen and including the screen room as it has been daily for
months now. You can rest assured the Rocket Post is cleaned every single day.
24 October, Saturday 8:00 AM thru 3:00 PM
I need volunteers to help get the post cleaned up. This will include inside and
outside. We are looking at some areas that need paint; the screen room needs to
be cleaned top to bottom as well as all the furniture. The ditch behind the
screen room needs to be cleared. Those that helped last year know that with
more help it is really an easy task. I hope to have as much help and more this
year.
I will talk about this for the next 4
weeks! 7 November our Auxiliary is putting on our first annual Fall Festival.
This will include both bars being open from 4-10 PM and a live band outside
from 6-9 pm. This is going to be a fantastic afternoon and evening. The
auxiliary has put a lot of thought into this event and I think it is going to
be one of the best events we have had in a great while. Tell your friends and
your family and if you know of any veterans out there have them grab their
DD-214 and come by because we will also be having a membership drive that
afternoon. You do not want to miss this.
Have a wonderful
week.
