Today
we commemorate VJ-Day, Victory over Japan Day. While the initial day of Japan’s
acceptance of the terms of surrender established in the Potsdam Treaty was
August 15th, 1945, it was September 2nd, 1945 that Japan
officially signed the terms of Surrender aboard the Battleship USS Missouri, in
Tokyo Bay.
This
date was effectively the day that World War II finally ended. While our WWII
Veterans are few in number these days, we as a nation owe a tremendous debt of
gratitude for their service and sacrifice. It’s hard to imagine what our
country or world would look like, had Nazi Germany and Japan not been defeated.
We,
the members of VFW "Rocket” Post 4534 wish to say Thank You, we will never
forget!
With
Gratitude and Respect
