Good Day Everyone,

 Happy 244th Birthday Marine Corps!

10 November 2019 is a part of something bigger than you can fathom, unless you are a Marine. This special day brings leathernecks back to a time surrounded by their brothers and sisters. Today you will see Marines gathering for a luau on Okinawa, or tossing each other around in the sand of Camp Pendleton for Marine Corps Martial Arts Program training. Who could forget the setting sun on evenings in boot camp, marching in formation and realizing what you were about to become, or the moment your drill instructors presented you with the Eagle, Globe and Anchor? This Marine Corps birthday, let's remember our fallen comrades while focusing on these wonderful memories, of the time spent enjoying each other's company and forming the bonds that hold them all together forever.

Here’s a little bit of knowledge for those of us that are not Marines. When you hear a Marine say to another Marine--"Semper Fi!” You will probably hear the other say--"Oorah!”

This is a sign of respect, and when you hear it you can rest assured they are both Marines and will be forever.

At the Rocket Post at noon when we open, Shepherd’s Pie will be served for lunch, and then at 1:00 PM (1300 Hrs.) we will be cutting the Marine Corps Birthday Cake.

On the 11th day of the 11thmonth at 11:00 AM we will say Thank you to all Veterans, past and present. Please join us at the Rocket. The ceremony will start at 11:00 a.m. and afterwards we will have dogs and burgers. Please bring a side to share.

I had a long write up about the history of Veterans Day but I deleted it. I got to thinking that with all of us being veterans and/or related to a Veteran, I figure we already know that Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day because of the ending of WWI. It had also been called Remembrance Day and as you all know in 1954 President Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill proclaiming 11 November Veterans Day.

Now for some things that a few of you may not have known!

Did you know that the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was interred on 11 November 1921?

Did you know that to date, there have been more than 41 million people that have served in the military during our nation’s history?

Did you know there are approximately 20 million veterans currently living in the United States?

Did you know the reason why there is no apostrophe in "Veterans” is because it is not a day that belongs to Veterans; it is a day for honoring all Veterans?

Please remember the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day. On Veterans Day we honor all Veterans; Past and Present. Someone asked if we would lower the Flag to half-staff on Veterans Day. The answer is no! We will fly that Flag as high as we can in honor of all who served and those that are currently serving this great country all over the world. Today we will not mourn, but we will celebrate. For all of you that have U.S. flags and POW flags, put them up and fly them high on this special day and say Thank you to any and all veterans that you encounter, not just today but always.

Football fans and Bingo fans, please take notice to the calendar, 17 November from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM we will not have football or Bingo.

Have a wonderful week.
